Five Steps Taken to Build Each Milestone to Support and Strengthen Relationships
Milestones Ministry's approach to faith formation includes a five-part structure: Name it; Equip it; Bless it; Gift it; and Reinforce it.
“Name it”:
- Identify meaningful and memorable moments in people’s lives
- Honor and celebrate moments, both happy and sad, in our lives such as: birth, baptism/dedication, the beginning of
school, confirmation, getting a driver’s license, graduation, a new
job, parenthood, grandparenthood, retirement, loss of a loved one and so many more.
- Encourage people to name the holy in life and recognize God's presence in the milestones along
life’s journey.
“Equip it”:
- Provide the opportunity to take the time amidst busy schedules to recognize the moment you have named.
- Use the outline provided in each Milestone to engage in conversation, read scripture, and pray together or write your own guided outline.
- Each Milestone at Milestones Ministry is designed under the umbrella of Four Key Faith Practices: Caring Conversations, Devotions, Service, Rituals and Traditions.
“Bless it”:
- Say a prayer to bless the lives of those involved in the milestone moment
- Give a blessing to remind those involved of God's daily presence in their lives.
“Gift it”:
- Give a gift related to the milestone being recognized as a visual reminder for days and years to come.
“Reinforce it”:
- Follow up with those involved in the milestone recognition by staying in touch through a call, meal together, text, email, or prayer.
