Life is full
of meaningful moments. Celebrating milestones helps bring an awareness of God’s
presence into the home and highlights the rituals of daily life experiences. Becoming a grandparent signals a new stage in life.
This milestone can initiate a flood of feelings as one realizes the important
role of a grandparent. From the time we learn that our children will be having
children, we begin to process what being a grandparent means for us.
We may be asking ourselves questions like . . . Is my child ready to be a parent? Am I ready to be a grandparent? Will I be there for the birth or adoption? Will my grandchild be raised in the church? How will I share my faith with my grandchild? How will I relate to the other grandparents?
Maintaining positive family relationships is important. Providing a setting where caring conversations, prayer, and blessings happen can be essential as we add the role of grandparent to our life’s journey. This milestone reminds us that God is with us at this significant stage in life. This
milestone includes the Four Keys for practicing faith outline which encourages
the connection between home and congregation. A simple five-step structure is
also included to intentionally invite the faith community to recognize the
milestone and celebrate it together to establish a solid base for community
outreach.
